What a day we had yesterday.
We were up at 6:30, a bit stiff from our trek down the mountain the day
before, we walked to the train station and by 10:00 we were in our old stomping
grounds in Valencia from 3 years ago. We walked to the street that we had lived
on for 6 weeks just for memories sake. It still looked the same.
We spent the day wandering around the city looking at the
work being done on the sculptures for the Fallas festival next week. They were
not finished yet. I guess we went a couple of days too early. Nonetheless it
was fun watching them work on them. At one point we stopped for a beer while
watching them put a head on one of the sculptures. We walked the old river bed
which is a park. We always enjoyed walking there when we were in Valencia and we
again enjoyed it. I had forgotten how clean and white Valencia was and big. The sculptures are different each year so you can go to our 2016 blog to see pictures from that year.
At 2:00 We joined everybody from Valencia for the mascleta. This
takes place at 2:00 in the afternoon for 2 weeks. Instead of fireworks, this is
a firecracker show where it is all about noise, smoke and the smell of gun
powder. The noise was deafening. Jacques took out his hearing aids but all I
could do was put my hands over my ears.
We arrived back at the apartment after 9 and my biggest day
with 34,000 steps. Today, we are doing nothing except the market. Even if I
don't get 10,000 steps it doesn't matter. I think that I have earned a day off.

Great photos. I agree some people prefer red over purple.
ReplyDeleteI could use that picture for this weeks colour challenge.
DeleteWow. Must be an amazing festival.Love the sculptues.
ReplyDeleteWe arrived in Valencia the week after the festival...but we did make it to the museum that houses the winning sculptures from each year back to 1940 or so....quite amazing. Our Airbnb host told us it was not a bad thing to miss the festival - apparently it is quite a party, nonstop firecrackers and fireworks....Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't imagine 34,000 steps! We did 19,000 one day - thought that was incredible.
