We are finally at our destination after 3 days.
It seems that we are slated to have an adventure on our first day
in Europe no matter what country we go to.
After leaving home at 10:00 on Wednesday we arrived in Porto
around noon on Thursday with plenty of time to make our connection to Lisbon
but unbeknownst to us there was a major hurricane in Lisbon and in the Algarve
as well as pouring rain in Porto. All flights in and out were cancelled for a
few hours.
We finally left Porto around 30 minutes past midnight to arrive at
the hotel that the airline accommodated us to at 2:30. It didn't make for a
long sleep before the 6:00 wakeup call. But if this is the worse that happens
to us then we can say that we are lucky. With all that time spent in he airport
we met 2 ladies from Ontario who had the same milk run as us and who are
staying in Albuferia for the month. We exchanged addresses and phone numbers
and plan to get together for supper once everyone is settled in.
We arrived in Albuferia at our apartment at noon on Friday. Since
David who was supposed to pick us up couldn't make the new pick up time, he
sent his wife. Both speak very good French and English having lived in France
for a number of years.
Our apartment is in the center of the old town. We are 100 meters
from the water. The door across the street from our apartment is the side door
to an old church. Which is across the street from an old archeological site (the
ruins are cordoned off). Tomorrow if we don't get the rain, they announce I
will take pictures but for today a bit of groceries, supper and a bit of
walking around o get our bearings and we'll call it day. Odette, I think you
would have liked it here.
Wendy, you were right, we should be in shape for the golf season
because there will be plenty of hills to climb every day.
