Yesterday we woke up to pouring rain, so we donned our rain gear
and headed out to find he library where there was a cache. It was about 3 km
away. The rain tapered off to a drizzle, so it wasn't so bad. After finding the
cache we stopped for take away at the Pingo Doce store. The special was cocido
a la Portuguese since we had liked the Cocido madrileño in Spain we decided to
try it. If I never have this dish again it is fine by me. There was plenty of
vegetables, 2 kinds of turnips, carrots, cabbage, and some sort of overgrown
Swiss chard or maybe it was kale I'm not sure and then a piece of every
different kind of meat, pork, chicken, blood sausage, beef pork rind and a
couple of other kind of sausages. All very very fatty and bony with not much
meat on it. Anyway, I ate it, but I don't want any again but as they say when
in Rome....
Today contrary to what the weather man had predicted we woke up to
sunshine. What a difference the sun makes. There were people everywhere sitting
on terraces having a drink or just walking around.
We went to see if we could find a car rental place. The first one
we went to was asking double the price that was shown on their website, so we
came back up the hill to find another one on the computer. This one had closed,
so guess what we came back up the hill to look up still another one on the
internet. We finally found a place and we will go there on Monday and rent a
car for 5 days. But first we have to figure out how to open our garage door
with our key.
We went for a short walk on the beach via the tunnel before coming
to sit and relax on the patio. When we came in to talk with Nathalie via
whatsapp it started to rain again so I guess our wine will be drunk inside and
not on the patio. But it doesn't matter because it is so much better than what
we drink at home. We have taken pictures of all of them except one so that we
can buy them again if we see them. They have an earthiness that we only find in
the more expensive wines back home.
All in all, we are enjoying our stay so far in spite of the
weather and are experiencing all sorts of new things.
