March 7 - Marina



This morning we woke up to sunshine, so we decided to again go towards the marina. We hadn't gone all the way around to the end of the breakwater for the geocache that was there.  It is quite a long hike (I had my 10,000 steps in before we made it back to the apartment). We walked all the way around and walked along a rocky path and then over a few boulders to arrive on a paved sidewalk that went all the way to the lighthouse. How they managed to do that with no access to the sidewalk is beyond me. From there we had a great view of our beach and the other side of the cliffs, so it was worth the walk.

We came back to the apartment for a short break before heading out to Pingo Doce for lunch. We are still trying to figure out how everything works. I tried to ask if I could choose a salad for my vegetable or if it's extra. With their limited English and my even more limited Portuguese I think that I can choose a salad as either an option as my veggie or simply pay extra. We decided to split a pizza and a half liter of wine, all for a grand total of 5.39 euros. The place was jam packed with locals so next time we will stay clear of that time frame (1:30 to 2:00). There is quite a variety of food offered, pizza made to order or fresh pasta in one section. Another section has traditional meals and that menu is different everyday and from what I understood it doesn't repeat on the same days of the week. You can also choose your meat or fish and they will grill it for you.

Afterwards we did a bit of groceries and when we came out the rain had showed up again. We walked home in the rain since it didn't seem to taper off. The rest of the day was spent relaxing, nibbling on cheese, sardine pâté, bread and wine for supper while watching a movie about Liberace's life.
