March 4 - Albufeira



I'm starting to feel as if half of the Maritimes are in Albuferia.  On our first day as were coming home from doing the groceries a couple from Charlottetown stopped us because they recognized our Sobeys bag. The next morning, we heard our names and turned around to see our old neighbours Celine and John and today while we were at the bus depot buying a bus pass one of Jacques' old work colleague and his wife who used to go to the same exercise class as I were there. It's definitely a small world. I wonder who we'll meet tomorrow.

I did my first load of laundry today. It only took us about a half hour to figure out how to open the door to the washing machine at the end of the wash. Turns out you have to wait a couple of minutes before the door unlocks, but since we kept turning the dials it wasn't unlocking. We have a few short lines on the balcony off the kitchen to dry the clothes. This is also where they store the brooms, mops, bucket, cleaning rags etc. This balcony faces the center of the building where there is a sort of plaza.

We have another balcony off the living room facing the abandoned church which also has a view of the ocean and a bit of the town. This balcony is quite big as far as European standards go and has the sun in the afternoon, (which will be great for a glass of wine at the end of the day if it stops raining at the end of the day).

We spent most of the day just wandering around trying to find out if there were any bargains to be had on day tours. We stopped at 3 different ticket places and they all said that no they did not reduce the price on day trips the day before. So, Wendy it seems as if André's bargains are no longer available.

Was possibly a church at one time but now it is a bar.
We stopped at a grocery store (Pingo Doce) and noticed a cafeteria style restaurant.  Since it was lunch hour we decided to eat there.  I had a loaded thin crust pizza made to order with 4 ingredients for 3.99 and Jacques had bacalhau (salted cod) spinach and potatoes for 4.50. You could also have a pitcher of wine which seemed to be close to a bottle for 1.40 but we opted to each have a beer for 1 euro each. We will definitely be going there again. Everything was good and more than we could eat.

Wendy we finally made it to the Modelo (continental) but most of our groceries are done at Lidl and Aldi which are almost like no frills, but they are the closest to our apartment.
