Jacques and Rollande: Not a diet kind of day

Since we were waiting for the owners to come install the new lamp, I decided it was a good time to do the laundry. I climbed up to the roof and hung the clothes on one of the lines there. They dried much faster up there with the sun in 25 degree weather. While up there, I realized how close we were to Castillo San Fernando, just one block before the start f the thematic park.

After they left, we decided to climb up to Castillo, one block up. That's the start and then you climb and then climb some more before you reach the top. There was not much to see except a lot of graffiti on the ruins. What a shame but lots of places to admire the views down below.

On the way down we decided to try a restaurant that everyone was raving about. To-bar. It seems that are 3 in the city but the one we were looking for and finally found has a fixed menu of 15 euros per person. There is no menu, but they bring you tasting plates to share. The house wine is included in the price, all you want. We started out with half a loaf of bread and 2 tapenades one a thick aoili and the other made of tomatoes and smoked fish, both very good but the aioli one was our favorite, then came a plate a 3 different kinds of sausages (6 pieces) to share , salad, then some sort of blini with bacalao (cod) and spinach, shrimps, then some sort of vegetable tempura with a tangy fruit sauce on top, we were told that it was vegetables but have no idea what vegetable we were eating, it was delicious just the same, then paella marisco (seafood). That was followed by desert which was chocolate trifle and Italian coffee and a glass of sherry to finish it all off. We were not hungry again for the rest of the day. All this along with a refill of the jug of wine for a total of 34 euros including the tax. That is the price of a bottle of wine at home in a restaurant. The menu is different everyday and different in the afternoon than in the evening. We will certainly be going again. Everything came in a plate that you share apart from the desert and the paella.

In the evening we decided to climb to the Castillo to see the sunset. Not much colour, but the lights shining on Castillo Santa Barbara were nice. We had a great view of it from our own Castillo.

I guess the owner is not as handy as he thinks. Last night we heard a pop and then the electricity went out. Thank God for our little geocaching flashlight that was in the suitcase. One of the bulbs in the new lamp had broken off and tripped the breaker. Jacques reset it and Jose will come Saturday to fix it.
