Our aim today was to do some puzzle caches that Jacques had
decoded. We found one regular cache within a couple of km from the tram stop
but it was almost 9,000 steps before we found the way to get to the trail where
the caches were. But 24 km and 35,000 steps later and we had our caches found.
There was not much to see except olive groves and empty
fields for most of the day until we found our way back to the city. In a lot of
areas, you even wonder if some of the houses are inhabited, they look so old
and decapitated. The outsides look worn
and the backyards are full of all sorts of junk that we would have thrown away
a long time ago. They are still using their old Formica tables as backyard
tables to sit at. When you see the clothes hanging on the line, I guess it
means someone is living there. Keeping the outside looking pretty doesn't seem
high priority here, I guess it's to deter thieves.
The highlight of the day was a geocaching event that a
couple from Denmark was hosting in the evening.
It was outside of the church. There were 2 other couples from Norway,
and I don't know where the others were from. At one point, the man that hosted
the event dressed up as a clown. He put on a clown nose, neck cushion on his
head and played music with ordinary instruments that he had made. One was a
pen, another a straw, he had a small ukulele type of instrument made from a
piece of wood and bells attached to his shoe. It made for a lively event with
even the homeless people clapping and taking pictures. It was unbelievable the
sounds that came out of his instruments.
