March 8, 2023 - A day to take it easy

Last night when we stepped down from the bus, both of us were so stiff from our day in Siena that we decided today would be a day to take it easy.

We spent the morning in the apartment with Jacques working on the computer and Rollande doing a bit of housework, exciting stuff like cleaning the bathroom and washing the floors etc. It needed to be done so might as well get it done. The sidewalks are dirty and we don’t take our shoes off in the apartment so the floors get dirty.

We had written to the owner of the Airbnb where we had stayed 10 years ago for the address and he had answered so we strolled down to have a look. We would never have found it without the address. We just wandered around looking for a couple of caches and then went to the train station to buy tickets for Bologna, but the employees were on strike today and they were not allowed to sell tickets. Instead of buying our tickets at the machines we decided to take a chance and see if we can get them tomorrow fast enough to make the 9:00 train. The lineups are often long and slow but so far, we have not had great success at the machines. If we can’t make the 9:00 train, we will simply wait and go next week sometimes. There is no hurry. They are announcing 22 degrees in Bologna for tomorrow.

We came back mid afternoon and had a chat with Sylvie and Bianca who is on break from school this week.

After our call with Sylvie, we went out for a walk around our area. We ended up visiting a church that was close to our appartement. Inside the church, there was a small chapel with 400 year old frescoes on the walls.

We went for our 2^nd supper at a restaurant since we have been here. The one we wanted to go to had no tables left when we called to make reservations. We therefore went to the same one that we have gone to a couple of times for lunch. It is said to be one of the last few restaurants that Anthony Bourdain went to before he died. The food is good but it was the same menu as lunch time, so we are better going there for lunch since it only opens at 7:15 which is a bit late for us. We were seated with a young man from Singapore who is travelling on his own for 2 months. When we left the restaurant at 9 there was a line-up outside waiting for a table.
