March 28, 2023 - Movie time.

This morning we headed to the market for the last time. We ordered some speck and told the guy serving us that this was our last time because we were returning home on Saturday. When he heard this, he returned our money and said it was free today for us. We had gone to his booth twice a week for almost 6 weeks. It was nice of him. He thanked us as well for the business. Every time we went there was always a line at this booth, and we had to take a number to be served. His prices were reasonable as well as good. We bought charcuteries, cheeses as well as fresh pasta and sauce from him regularly.

On the way to the market there was a bit more stir than normal when we got to the Santa Croce square. They were filming a world war 2 movie about an Italian scientist. Jacques thought it was exciting and watched for quite a while. I thought it was a bit boring with a lot of not much going on, so I went and sat on a bench and gazed at the Santa Croce church in the meantime. It is a beautiful church with lots of workmanship in the trim. Jacques asked one of the workers questions about the film but the only information he was allowed give was that it was a feature film. A lady beside Jacques told him that it was a WW II movie about an important Italian scientist. Back at the appartement, Jacques searched the internet and found the name Enrico Fermi who built the world's first prototype nuclear reactor and was also a key figure in the development of the atomic bomb. Jacques' father also suggested the name Ettore Majoranna who mysteriously disappeared in 1938 after purchasing a ticket to sail from Palermo to Naples. That case was never solved.

We returned after lunch and saw another small part being filmed.

We had another reservation at Jacques' favorite restaurant for supper. This time we had the filet mignon. It was about ¾ lb each. Jacques was happy to help me finish mine. The waiter who has served us 3 of the 4 times asked us about our vacation. When we told him we were going home on Saturday we received each a glass of vino Santo and some cantucci for dessert on the house. This is starting to be fun.
