We woke up to pouring rain but by 10 it had slowed down to a drizzle, so we put on our rain gear and headed to the sandwich shop that always has a long line. For once there were only a few people in line. I guess most people don’t like eating a huge sandwich standing on the street in the rain. We chose the sandwich named flavorosa for our 1st one. It had a cream of truffle, then a spread of pistachios, then a mixture of spicy eggplant and on top of that a whole bunch of salami type meat. Since it comes half wrapped, we had brought with us a large Ziplock bag to take the sandwich home to cut and share for lunch. It is much too big for one person.
Within a few minutes of being back in the apartment it started raining hard again. We did our outing just at the right time. How lucky. By mid afternoon it stopped raining, so we walked to Pitti palace to ask about Sunday’s free museum day. From November to March the museum entries are free on the 1st Sunday of the month. The guide recommended that we be there early. We want to visit Pitti palace and the Boboli gardens since we didn’t visit them when we came 10 years ago. We think also that Uffizi and Accademia will be too full of people. Unlike the Medici free day, we cannot get our ticket ahead of time so we will have to get tickets before going to the palace.
Jacques finally got his wish for Florentine steak for supper. We took the special with the Chianina meat. It is from a brand of cow that is exclusive to the area and is supposed to taste different. It included a charcuterie board for antipasti, a bottle of water, a 1 kg steak, potatoes, coffee and desert. Everything is to share. We were a bit disappointed because it is supposed to be served rare and it was more a medium cook. We asked if that was normal at the end of the meal. They said yes but we are not convinced. After we had questioned, the waiter arrived with a bottle of herbal type drink for us. He poured us each a glass and left the bottle on our table for refills if we wanted more. All in all, a good meal. We brought back half of our charcuterie board for tomorrow's lunch.
