In the winter the 1st Sunday of the month many of
the attractions are free. We opted to do the Acropolis this morning. We had
every intention of being on the road before 8:30 but it was 9:00 before we
headed out the door. From our apartment to the top of the Acropolis it is quite
a climb, but we did it in record time. We did beat the rush because by the time
we left a couple of hours later there were people everywhere.

To give you an example of their english. To tell us that we
needed a ticket even if it was free, he said " zero ticket you must".
It takes a bit of imagination to figure out what you need sometimes. This was
after waiting in line behind 2 tour bus groups. Took a couple of minutes to get
our tickets and back to the gate.
We did enjoy the Parthenon and the temple of Athena Nike
while on the Acropolis rock before the crowds and even walked around the
mountain a ways. On the way down again, we stopped to visit the Dionysus
theatre.
Since we have an unlimited monthly pass for the metro we
came back to the apartment for lunch and to drop off our jackets.
We then went to visit the temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's
Arch. I was glad that it was free because there was not much to see. Everything
can be seen from the gate for free.
We went to see the Olympic stadium but there was a fee. Like
the ticket agent said. Here it is never free. Again, everything could be seen
from outside the gate, so we didn't bother to go in. The only thing we couldn't
do was climb on the winner’s podium.

On the way home we stopped to watch the changing of the
guards as we happened to be there on the hour. We will go again on another
Sunday at 11:00 with either Odette or André and Wendy when they have the big
changing of the guards.
