March 7 - Waiting for André and Wendy to arrive.

Today is the day our friends André and Wendy arrived for a short 2-day visit. While waiting for them I started a load of laundry and then we decided to go see what was on the other side of Philopappos Hill.  It looked far so we took the metro making a transfer on the way. It took us about 45 minutes by metro to get there. Once there we wandered about for a short while and since we didn't find all the tavernas that we had been told were there we decided that we still had loads of time to kill. We decided to come home passing through the valley in the hill. It was once an old road leading to Piraeus. It actually took less time (if we hadn't stopped for a few caches) to walk than to go by metro.

Once we were back on our side of the hill, we decided to walk to Plaka and do a bit of window shopping. That is the area we were in yesterday but didn't know where we were at. At 2 we were starting to be hungry, so we stopped for some street food. I have no idea what we ate but it was delicious.  It was some sort of sandwich with a handle. There was a spicy meat hamburg type with lettuce, some sort of sauce, cheese and green onions which I gave to Jacques.  Because we chose one with meat it was more expensive it was 3.70 euros each which is about $5.

Today's lunch - very good
André and Wendy arrived around 4:15. As soon as they had put their suitcases in the room, we were off showing them the sites. For someone who had been travelling for over 24 hours they were in pretty good shape. We climbed up to our spot that we have been going to the last few days to have a look at the Acropolis and then walked down to the Acropolis museum, then through a short part of Plaka, went to Hadrian 's Arch and the temple of Zeus, followed by Syntagma square before going again to have a look at the Acropolis. I was tired after all of that and I hadn't been travelling for 2 days. It was my biggest step day on my Fitbit with over 29,000 steps. We had walked over 19 km by the end of the day. No wonder my arches are beginning to ache.

The gang's all here

I don't think it will fit

We returned to the apartment around 8 and sat on the patio for a snacking type of supper, olives, pita bread, tzatziki, peppers cucumbers and cheese with beer and wine. We had stopped at our local bakery on the way home and Wendy had bought each of us a desert. A custard filled phyllo triangle. I don't know what it is called. It was good but not as good as the one we had bought last week.

They went to bed early and we were not far behind.
