March 4 - A supposed to be rainy day

Since it was supposed to rain today, we decided to go to the market early. I needed to do some laundry but as soon as we leave the apartment everything electric except for the fridge shuts off and since my last load had taken 2 hours and 15 minutes to do, I opted to do the laundry later.

One of the things that are for sale in most stalls is octopus, so guess what Jacques wants to cook for supper. After going back and forth he finally chose his octopus and off we went to get the rest of our supplies.

We needed garlic. There are many places that sell garlic but on the corner were 2 young boys set up with bunches of tied garlic selling for 1 euro. We bought from them. It was a mistake. After we paid one of the boys started following us. He couldn't speak English, but he kept asking for 1 euro and showing us stalls with snacks. He wouldn't stop following us and did so until we went down to the metro. Next time there will be no buying from children.

After a lunch of scrambled eggs with mushrooms and peppers, since it hadn't rained yet we decided to go try to find the discount grocery store Lidl. It was our 1^st time turning left from the apartment.

We weren't gone more than 2 minutes where we found another grocery store (not Lidl). This had fresh produce and meats and next door they had the rest of the groceries.  You exit the store and go next door to finish your groceries and pay in whichever one you want.

It took us about 45 minutes to find our Lidl. We bought a few things including a couple of bottles of wine which were much cheaper than in our local grocery store.  We would have bought more but with about a km and a half to carry it we decided that 2 was enough. 

In the evening after our Skype talk with Sylvie and Bianca we decided to go for another stroll and see if we could find any good spots for taking nighttime pictures for when André and Wendy arrive. It turns out that the Parthenon is not lit at night only the left side of the Acropolis where the temple of Athena is. 

We finished our walk via the pedestrian street which is full of little bars and restaurants.  I think Odette will enjoy this. So for a day that it was supposed to rain and that we were not going to do anything my Fitbit recorded that we had walked over 16km. The 2nd best day this trip.
