March 3, 2026 - Last Hike in Bordeaux

Today was our last hike in the Bordeaux area. We took the tram across the river and hiked along the right bank of the Garonne River until we reached the next bridge. By then we were pretty much in the industrial area. There was not much to see except all the debris that was left after the Garonne overflowed 2 weeks ago. We walked across the bridge which was next to the arena. When there are games, it must be busy on the bridge because it is 4 car lanes wide just for the pedestrians, plus a lane for bicycles. I didn’t notice how many lanes there was for the cars, but I think it was only 2.

After crossing the bridge, we headed further out on the left bank for maybe a couple of km before turning back towards home. We were so far out that we were not in Bordeaux anymore but in Begles. We stopped in a park, to have our lunch on a bench. It felt good to sit. We had planned on stopping for a coffee in a café to rest but we didn’t see any that appealed to us, so we continued on until we reached the apartment for a well-deserved rest.

Late afternoon we went to the square across the street for a beer and people watch before heading out to L’intendant for another wine suggestion for supper tonight. Tonight, will be our last home cooked meal here. Tomorrow we will eat out. On the menu fresh pasta with shrimps, calamari, and garlic.

We logged over 16 km today. The next few days we will probably not be walking as much. It will give our feet a break .
