Today was supposed to be a rainy day but we were lucky in that there were only showers, and they were while we were inside so we were able to walk about without our jackets.
After a lazy morning, we headed off to find las Setas which is a big wooden sculpture resembling mushrooms. They started construction in 2005 and it opened in 2011. It is the largest wooden structure in the world. Underneath is the market of encarnacion. We enjoyed looking at the different stalls of food and bought 2 different types of olives as well as supplies for supper.
After delivering our groceries back at the apartment we headed towards the river where we crossed over to the other side to the Triana district, There were many beautiful round buildings. There must be an architect in the area who likes to design round buildings. We didn’t spend too long looking because we wanted to get to the Triana market before they closed for a tapa for lunch. The market closes at 3 and it was already 2:30. We found a wonderful stall where the lady sold only organic homemade food. It was delicious and cheap and she tried so hard to explain to us what each items was even using her phone to help translate for us. When she learned that we were here for 6 weeks she took the time to write a list of places that we must see before we leave. It was a very busy spot and was busy all the time, she went over and beyond in the service that she gave. It was much better than the produce that we bought at a stall in the Encarnacion market where the owner chose (you are not supposed to touch the produce but must let the owner pick the produce for you) produce that was not very fresh. We had to throw away one of the 2 onions that we bought from him. He also had nice lemons on display but the ones we were given were also past their prime. We will not be shopping there again.
It had obviously rained while we were inside the market but by the time we left the sun was out again so we did a couple of caches before heading back to our side of the river and our apartment.
Tomorrow we will take the bus and go to two of the places that she recommended that we see while here.
