We started the day with another lazy morning. After a late breakfast we headed to the Cappucin market to buy some rabbit for supper. We like to buy rabbit when in Europe because it is so much cheaper than at home. You cannot find domestic rabbit under $40 at home and the only place to find it is at IGA. Most of the stalls were closed today but we found a vendor that had rabbit all prepared in little bundles stuffed with grainy mustard and wrapped in bacon. We bought 2 ‘’pappiottes’’ as he called them. An easy enough meal with small fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts. Total cost 10 euros. Cheap enough for a good meal. He told us to put it in the oven and let it bake for 25 to 30 minutes. It was very good but a bit different from the way we usually prepare it. The mustard in the middle had what we presume to be breadcrumbs mixed with it and the rabbit was thin slices on top of each other with bacon as the last layer. The bundle was tied together. I added a bit of wine and water on the bottom of the pan since there is no seasoning except for salt and pepper in the kitchen. We decided it was a do again recipe. It was a cheap, easy, and good meal.
We came back to the apartment to deposit our purchases and eat a small lunch before heading out to buy our city pass. We opted for the 48-hour pass. We will activate it tomorrow morning when we book our tour that comes with the pass. We chose the boat cruise rather than the walking tour since we have already seen much of what the walking tour would cover. The tourist office was much busier than last week. I think it is the school break because there are lots of kids around since the weekend.
After buying our city pass, we walked to the river to take the ferry across to Darwin. It is a totally different vibe, almost hippyish for lack of a better word. The architecture is very different with lots of street art. We only stayed a short while before taking the ferry across again to a different stop, from where we walked home. We might go again if we have time before we leave Bordeaux.
With supper we finally opened the 10-euro bottle of wine. It was good, a lot fuller bodied than the other wines we’ve had so far but I can’t say that it’s any better than the $6.49 bottle. We have not found any yet that have a long finish.
Today there was only a bit of drizzle, but the next 2 days are again calling for heavy rain. We will need to wear our rain jackets and also bring our umbrellas with us as we have a busy day planned.
