We started by visiting "the lingering gardens" of
Suzhou, which were owned by a rich man from the area. There were lots of
bonsai, ponds and rock formations. It would have been a peaceful place if it
wasn't so crowded with people.

We then went for a walk along the canal. They described it as the
Venice of the east, but it doesn't come close to the real Venice. I had a
sudden urge to use the facilities. The guide took me there. It was one of those
fancy squat bathrooms, but when you have to go you really don't care. After a
couple of runs there I felt better. We saw vendors who sold all sorts of food,
like chicken feet and funny things on sticks.

We drove 2 hours for lunch which wasn't too bad. Afterwards we
walked along the bund. Nothing much to see. Then they dropped us off in a
walking area so crowded that several people decided to stay on the bus. It
almost seems as if they are trying to kill time because they don't know where
to take us.

After a so-so supper we arrived at our hotel around 7:30.
