Today, we drive Amarillo, Texas to Albuquerque, NM. It
turned out to be our toughest drive of the trip with a constant headwind which
we estimate at being in the 100km/hr range. You could see the gas gauge go down
at a much faster rate than normal. Even getting out of the car and walking
around was a challenge.
Our first stop of the day was at a place called
Cadillac Ranch. It was where 10 Cadillac cars were planted in a corn field. It
was also a geocache so we had to stop.

For most of the day, I-40 that we were driving on was
running right next to the old Route 66 so each time we took an exit, we were on
Route 66. Being a simple 2 lane road, it would make for a long ride from
Chicago to Las Angeles. We made frequent stops during the day and at one point
we met a couple from Pennsylvania who were travelling in the same direction. We
bumped into them another 4-5 times at our various stops.

The couple we kept seeing were driving for a couple hours
past Albuquerque but with the high winds, we were more than happy to stick to
our original plans of stopping here for the night. We arrived around 2:30 and spent the rest of the
afternoon sightseeing in the city.

Being in New Mexico, we decided that Mexican food was
the obvious meal of choice for tonight. Since we are not very familiar with
Mexican food, we asked the waitress to recommend something. She suggested a
combination plate with 4 items to share. There was tamale, a burrito, chili con
queso plus one more item in a large green chili. It was very good.

Tomorrow our plan it to arrive at our destination in
Phoenix but there is a snowstorm in the forecast in the mountains north of
Phoenix. We hope that the road along our planned route will be open. If not, we
will need to continue on to Flagstaff before heading south towards Phoenix.
