February 17, 2017 - Memphis

Yesterday, we did not get a chance to visit any recommended bars or restaurants so today we went exploring. We went on Beale Street which is a pedestrian street similar to Bourbon St on New Orleans. There is music playing in every bar and people walk around with their large beers or cocktails. Music is very loud but also very lively. The big difference between here and Bourbon street is that there are no necklaces for the ladies to "earn" and also a lot less junk everywhere.
For supper, we went to the Charles Vergos Restaurant, which is highly recommended in all the travel magazines as having the best ribs in the city. The BBQ sauce in Memphis is vinegar based but we found that there was simply too much vinegar, so we did not enjoy as much as last night's ribs. The place was packed but the service was quick. The most bizarre thing that we saw was that the ribs were served on paper plates and they gave us plastic utensils, but they had linen napkins.

Interesting plate
We also visited the Crystal Shrine Grotto.

Of course, a visit to Memphis would not be complete without Elvis
