Today was supposed to be a rainy day but it was just overcast until supper time. We decided to visit the Santa Croce Basilica which we had visited 10 years ago. It is the biggest Franciscan church in the world. Just on the floor, there are over 250 tombs. Michelangelo, Donatello, Galileo, Marconi to name a few are also buried in this church. There are a dozen chapels inside the church as well, one of course belonging to the Medici family. We spent a couple of hours looking at different tombs and chapels as well as waiting for people to move so that we could take pictures. There were a lot more people than there were 10 years ago.
Before buying our tickets for Santa Croce we visited the school of leather which is behind the church. We had also done this 10 years ago. It is a world-renowned school. It was fun to look at all the leather jackets, purses, and belts, of course none of them cheap. At least no one here to pressure you in buying. 10 years ago, there was a door leading into the Basilica so as a result, we skipped the 6 Euro admission fee. This time, the door had been boarded up. Probably due to too many people taking this back door to enter the Basilica.

On the way home, we had discussed stopping at one of the famous All’Antico Vinaio shop for a sandwich but when we got there the line seemed to be at least an hour wait so we didn’t stop. Maybe another time although we have never gone by without there being a long line.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing and wandering around the Mercato Centrale. A lot of the booths were closed by the time we arrived, so we had the chance to look around without the hassle of a lot of people.
