February 21, 2023 - Slow day

Today was a slow day. We set off mid morning in the search of a few virtual caches. The first one took us to Ponte Vecchio where we have already gone a number of times, then on to the Uffizi gallery, in front of the duomo and inside the duomo to find a clock. It is all places that we have seen a few times, but it was fun, nevertheless. We ended up at the San Ambrogio market where we bought supplies for supper. Goat meat pounded and breaded, small new potatoes, green beans, fennel, lemons, onions and garlic. It was a good supper. But we think that the meat was maybe supposed to be deep fried rather than cooked in the frying pan. The fennel cooked in the oven with olive oil and orange slices is a do again.

We returned to the appartement with our supplies and took a break before returning to explore the neighborhood again. We wanted to find one of the stores where you can buy wine in bulk. We found it and bought a liter of wine in the refillable bottle that we had found in the cupboard for 3 euro and 80 cents. The one we had picked from the board wasn’t available, so they gave us another one to taste and we went for it. We had some of it with supper. It was good.

Tomorrow, we plan on taking another short trip. This time on the train to Prato which is about 15 to 20 km from Florence. Prato is mostly a textile city. We are going for geocaches. It will also be a practice run to learn how the train system works before we start our bigger day trips like Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, Bologna etc.
