Today was supposed to be a day relaxing but as always we ended up walking over 13 km. We slept late and started later than normal. We wanted to find a supermarket that our host had told us about that was supposed to be huge. We found it about 20 minutes walk from here. It is the size of a Sobeys or superstore back home. We needed some filters for the coffee machine. The ones that everyone uses here doesn’t use filters so there are none in the small local shops. We also wanted a small bag of flour. We found a 2lb bag. It is not a store that we will be going to often since it would be too far to carry heavy stuff but we got a store card anyway. On the way to the supermarket, we passed one of the last remaining gates to the city of Florence.

Since it was getting close to lunch time we decided to find a place to eat. Jacques had been wanting to try pappardelle a la cinghiale (wild boar) since we arrived. We tried 3 restaurants before finding one that had a free table. It was close to here and it did not disappoint. We are starting to learn how to order. When they arrive with the bread we decline because there is a charge per person even if you do not eat any if they put it on the table. The bread is served dry with no butter or oil. On the menu the wine list is listed but if you ask for the vino de la taverna or casa it is only a fraction of the price. It is definitely a meal that we will have again but from now on we will be cooking at home on Sundays.
After a short rest and chat with Nathalie and Henri we headed to city center to do some geocaches. We did 2 series of 5 each, one of them on the Medici family. We stopped to browse at a craft market but didn’t buy anything even though I was tempted by some wooden knives for spreading cheese or tapenades.
We cannot get over how many people are here. When we came 10 years ago it was a bit crowded but no where near the crowd that is here now. We tried to find the street that we had stayed on but couldn’t. We will have to look up our profile on Airbnb to get the adresse.
The cache series on the Medici sounds really cool. We’ve watched a couple of documentaries on that family and would definitely like to see sites related to them. Rita and David
