February 24, 2023 - Market Day

We took the day easy today. After a leisurely breakfast we headed out to the San Ambrogio market to pick up our supplies for the weekend. They are calling for rain and cooler for the next few days so we will take a few days to do laundry and clean the appartement a bit.

We spent a good part of the morning getting our supplies, meat , cheese, fresh ravioli with truffles, sauce, veggies, oranges, and strawberries. You must take a number and wait your turn. Since they prepare your meat according to the way you want it cut it can take a while. We have about 1 chicken breast cut thinly length wise which he then pounded for us to make 4 very thin large pieces.

We found a tee-shirt for our friend André.

On the way home we stopped to watch some people ordering drinks through the wine doors. There are holes in the walls put in during the black plague that came back into use during the pandemic. You ring the little bell in the window and someone inside comes to the window to take your order. We saw them do this in the amazing race. It was fun to watch.

We went for lunch at one of the trattorias that was recommended to us by Elly our co-host. When we arrived, there was a very long line outside, but we soon saw the reason for the lineup when 25 young people came out at the same time. Inside, was quite large. They ask how many people in your party and then seat you wherever there is room. We were seated at the end of a table where another couple was eating their meal. Soon after they left a threesome was seated with us. This is a restaurant that we will certainly be returning to. The food was good and not expensive. We had bread, stuffed chicken, roast beef with potatoes, chickpeas, cooked cabbage (delicious). Half liter of sparkling water, half liter of red wine and we shared a cooked pear for dessert for a total of 24 euros and change. There was no need to make supper tonight.

The rest of the day was spent just relaxing with a short walk around the neighborhood around 5.
