Today we went for a drive to California. Of course,
the reason was to add California on our geocaching map. We left at 8, right
during rush hour traffic. We were in California in a couple of hours. We did
about half a dozen caches in a small town called Blythe, had lunch and then
headed back east with plans to do 2 series of caches on the way home. The first
series took us to the desert in the middle of nowhere in very bad roads. After
a couple of km, we decided to turn around and go for the other series. This
series was fun. Most of the caches were hidden under a pile of rocks in a rifle
shell inside another rifle shell. It was based on stories of outlaws, so I
guess that was his reason for using rifle casings as a container.
At a number of spots, we saw campgrounds where people
are allowed to stay for 2 weeks before they must move to a new campground. Must
be hot during the summer with no shade.
This past winter has been a lot wetter than normal so
the cactus are in full bloom. Typically, they get these kinds of conditions on
average every 10 years, so we got lucky.
