March 9, 2013 - Athens, Greece

Our stop for today in Athens Greece. We had a fun adventure getting into the city from the port. According to the instructions we had read before the trip, we were to go to a local news stand just outside the gate to purchase a bus ticket. Once there, we were told that they did not have any tickets and they did not know were to buy some. There were however a lot of taxi drivers outside the gate offering us a taxi ride into the city for 20 Euros. We decided to go to a bus stop and ask the driver on the next bus that came along where to buy tickets. He told us to get in and off we went. A bit later at one of the stops, the driver told us that we had to change to another bus and told us which one to take. We ended up getting into the city and the driver did not charge us to the ride. Turns out that on cruise days, the taxi drivers pay off the local ticket venders not to sell bus tickets so that they can get the business of driving tourists into the city.

Once there, we went on a free walking tour that we had previously booked. Had a great time.

At the end of the day, we returning to our ship via the metro without any problems.

There was ornamental orange trees everywhere. Out guide said that the were edible but very sour. The look on Rollande's face says it all.

The guard tapped the butt of is rifle on the ground to indicate

"Your too close lady"

That's better
