Today was the day that we visite the Cinque Terre area. It was mostly cloudy with a few light showers so not the bet day for pictures.
Cinque Terre consists of 5 small fishing villages built on the side of steep hills next to the sea. We managed to visit 4 of those villages. We had hoped to take a boat tour in order to get a better view from the water but we are currently in the off-season. The tours only start April 1.
We started our day in Riomaggiore.

You can travel between villages either by walking trails or by train. We opted for the trains. Many of the trails were closed due to washouts following heavy rains.
Our second stop of the was the village of Manarola.

The easiest way to get from one village to another is by train passing through many tunnels along the way.
For our third village of the day, we decided to skip Corniglia and continue on to Vernazza. We figured that we would run out of time if we visited all five and wanted to reach the last village.
You would certainly stay in shape if you had to walk along these streets every day.

Our final stop for the day is Monterosso. Of the four villages that we visited today, this is the only one that is not built in the hillside. It is also the only one that has a large beach.
This ends our visit to Cinque Terre. Tomorrow we head to Civitavecchia outside Rome to start our 10-day cruise.
