Our tour has ended and today is our return trip home. We were up at 2 am so we can be ready in the lobby for our 3 am pickup but the bus was half an hour late because last night Morocco won the under 20 soccer world cup. There was reveling in the streets and traffic everywhere. Total chaos. Our bus had an altercation with a motor bike and a group of the bikers started circling our bus. Thank goodness it was quickly resolved. It all started with one biker cutting in front of our bus and came withing inches of being hit.
Nothing eventful on the flights home except for the fact that after having one of the best meals on an Air Canada flight from Montréal to Casablanca, the return flight had to be one of the worst meals that we have ever had on Air Canada. Arrived in Halifax around 4:30 where we stayed for the night.
During our trip one evening, a few people seemed to be discontented with the quality of the hotels and the food. This is our 3rd exotica trip and we have always been satisfied with the hotels and tours even though we take the basic charm category. Yes after the first 3 nights the quality of the hotels in Morocco was not as good as what we are accustomed to, but I reminded them that we are in a 3rd world country. What is a 3 star at home is not always equivalent to another country's 3 star.
We found the hotels as well as the cities of Casablanca, Rabat and even Tangier were great and clean. After leaving Tangier we started seeing a lot of garbage in the fields and on the roadsides. Since hitting the Atlas mountains the hotels are more and more basic but clean. There is no more free water in the rooms or in the restaurants and often things in the room don't work. The food is often served cold or at best lukewarm.
All in all, the service in the hotels was good and everyone we met was very nice and hospitable. We really enjoyed the diversify of the country, it's beautiful scenery and it's different food. But all that being said it is good coming back to Canada and not having to worry about things such as water being fit to drink etc.
Welcome home A&W
