What a great day we had. We started the day by taking the train
for 2 hours to reach Régua from where we walked to the river to take our
cruise. It was worth every penny. The scenery along the river with the elevated
plateau plantings was amazing. The work involved to achieve this must be
monumental. Some of the houses are built
right into the landscape with different levels to go with the hillsides.
The people along the Douro valley seem to be a bit more affluent
than the other parts of Portugal. The houses are better maintained, and the
landscaping is better.
For lunch on the boat we were served a cream of vegetable soup as
appetizer, main course was pork in an orange sauce with roasted potatoes along
with braised cabbage and carrots and of course there was a dish of rice. Every
restaurant that we have eaten in has served us rice along with french fries or
potatoes. The wine was unlimited.
Dessert was some sort of carob cake and coffee.
It was an awesome day that we will remember for a long time.

The cruise finished on the opposite side of the river than we live
on so we geocached all the way home and even climbed up to the top level of the
bridge.
