April 7, 2017 - Heading home

Yesterday was a driving and geocaching day. Roads were straight and flat so not much to see. We stopped for the night just before Kansas City. By now, the terrain is not as flat, so the driving is not so boring.

Today (Friday) we continued heading east and stopped in St. Louis hoping to visit the Gateway Arch but there was some sort of festival going on and we could not get near the place. I don't think that we were in the best part of the city. It was very industrial and quite dirty. We found a couple of geocaches and took a few pictures before continuing our driving past the city where we stopped for the night.

We are more than halfway home with less than 2500 km left to do. We expect (if all goes well) to arrive in Fredericton on Thursday and Moncton either Friday night (most likely) or Saturday. As much as we enjoyed our vacation, we are starting to be anxious to arrive home. It’s a long road trip. We have seen some amazing scenery, like no where else in the world but it time to get back to our routine at home and relax a bit.

The trip is taking a bit more time than it should. I imagine that the fact we are stopping for a cache in every county has nothing to do with it but it is Jacques bucket list trip, so I let it be and try not to complain too much.

Now we are in the same type of terrain as back home, rolling hills.

Jacques computer has crashed so we are sharing mine (the reason why the e-mails are not as often).

It is Saturday and we are in Effingham about 1 hour away from Indiana with 15 degree temperature. We are a full day ahead of schedule, so Jacque wants to take a slow day to geocache in Terre Haute which is about an hour from here. We lose an hour tomorrow again so will sleep in before heading out.

Sunday and we made it to Columbus Ohio with 21 degrees so a nice day. Our friends from Phoenix had recommended that we stop here to do a cache. It was a topiary based on the painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by French painter Georges-Pierre Seurat.

Hope to be home Friday night. We're stopping in Fredericton Thursday.

Wow you had warmer weather than us. We are around 15 degrees. We are in Effingham about 1 hour away from Indiana. On Monday, we drove through Pennsylvania and West Virginia while doing some geocaching along the way and we stopped for the night in Carlisle. By now, we are back on familiar roads that we had previously taken to go to Florida.

On Tuesday, we reached Sturbridge, Mass.

On Wednesday, we reached Maine and Thursday, Fredericton, one day ahead of schedule. Friday, home.

It was a one-time trip. We saw lots of greats sites and had a great time, but we were happy to be back home. In total, we put 17,000 kms on the car but Jacques found it less tiring compared to driving to Florida since we were driving on average 4-6 hours most days with frequent stops instead of the usual 10-12 hours per day to Florida.
